Ground mounted solar array approved on agricultural land

Our client wanted to install solar panels as part of a proposal to improve the sustainability of their house as they were to be coupled with a battery installation with the solar energy being used to heat their house and a proposed electric car. The house was unsuitable of roof mounted panels and as such a low ground mounted system was proposed, as can be seen in the image above.

The panels were on open agricultural land but there would be minimal views of the array and no visual harm caused, the council were therefore able to issue the planning permission in the normal timescales.

In 2013 the Government introduced new permitted development rights to allow office buildings to be converted to residential use. This was for an initial temporary period of 3 years but they subsequently made the new rights permanent in 2016.
