New Park Street
RCC was brought on board by PKA Architects when they were approached by a developer proposing a mixed use development on a vacant site in Devizes town centre. The site accommodated a single storey clinic building and car park but historically there would have been a building on the main road frontage. The previous photos of the site are shown.
We worked closely with PKA to create a scheme that met the client’s requirements but also ensured the best chance of attaining planning approval. There were subsequent negotiations with council planners and conservation officers but final approval was given for a wholly 3 storey building with a total of 7 high quality 2 bedroom flats on the first and second floor.
Our client already had Majestic Wine in place as a prospective tenant for the ground floor so our key issue was to maximise the amount of residential development on the upper floors to ensure the development was viable. The site was also in the Devizes Conservation Area with numerous listed buildings nearby, therefore the scale and design of the building needed to be appropriate for the area.
