Class Q allows for the conversion of agricultural buildings to dwellings and was meant to have to a streamlined and simplified process to allow for more rural conversions. In reality however Class Q has turned out to be a hugely complicated and contested part of planning with many councils very strictly interpreting the legislation and guidance. RCC have been successful on numerous occasions with Class Q application so we were ready to put forward a robust case working closely with the client, structural engineer and the architect. The proposed dwelling had a simple design that allowed for a practical dwelling for the family whilst maintaining the agricultural appearance of the building.
The planning officer carefully considered all the information submitted by RCC and the other consultants and accepted fully that the proposal met the requirements of Class Q and no further information was required. The Permission was therefore granted within the 8 week timeframe.
